The Elite Men and Women National Boxing Championships commenced at Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida on Monday, featuring World Champion Minakshi, two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen, and Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain, all securing straightforward victories.
This event marks the inaugural occasion where both men's and women's National Championships are being conducted simultaneously at a single venue, with participation from 600 boxers competing across 10 weight categories for each gender, as reported by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI).
Women's Matches: Leading Boxers Excel
In the women's bouts, Nikhat (48-51 kg) from Telangana achieved a flawless 5:0 victory against Nidhi from Chandigarh. Similarly, Minakshi (45-48 kg) triumphed over Tamil Nadu's V Lakshaya S Vijayan with the same score. Lovlina, competing in the 70-75 kg category, easily defeated Krisha Verma by unanimous decision.
Men's Matches: Sagar and Sumit Secure Wins
In the men's competitions, Sagar (47-50 kg) won decisively against Ashutosh with a score of 5:0. Sumit (70-75 kg) also claimed victory over Arshpreet Singh by the same margin. Young talent Hitesh (65-70 kg) showcased his skills with a commanding 5:0 win against Ankit.
Additionally, in the 55-60 kg category, Sachin achieved a dominant 5:0 victory over Tushar, while Ankush (50-55 kg) defeated Suraj Bhan with an identical score.
