Strong Start for Eagle Thane Strikers

Captain Shardul Thakur of the Eagle Thane Strikers expressed his contentment following a commanding victory in their opening match of the Mumbai T20 League 2026. He emphasized the importance of establishing early momentum in a tournament format that is notably brief. The Strikers kicked off their campaign with a resounding nine-wicket win against the Bandra Blasters at Wankhede Stadium on Monday, thanks to an outstanding unbeaten century from Shashwat Jagtap and a dynamic opening partnership with Sumeir Zaveri.

Commendation for Emerging Players

After the match, Thakur reflected on the team's performance, commending the youthful energy and fearless attitude displayed by the younger players. He remarked, "This tournament is new, and our team has a fresh vibe with the youngsters. Their talent was evident in this opening game, and it’s invigorating to witness. I feel rejuvenated as well," stated Thakur.

The seasoned all-rounder, who has played 85 international matches for India, stressed the necessity of fostering an environment where young athletes can perform with confidence and freedom. "I've already communicated with them in team meetings. They have my full support to express themselves on the field. However, the team always comes first," he added.

Importance of Early Momentum

Thakur also underscored the critical nature of starting strong in a tournament where each match holds significant weight due to the tight schedule. "This is just the beginning of the tournament. I understand it’s a short one with quick turnarounds. However, we needed that early momentum, and we achieved it. The good performance is behind us now; our focus is on the next game," he explained.

Following their impressive opening match, the Eagle Thane Strikers are now preparing for their next challenge against the Aakash Tigers MWS on June 3, with the aim of maintaining their strong start and building further momentum in the Mumbai T20 League 2026.
