As the Duleep Trophy final approaches this Sunday, Tilak Varma, the captain of the South Zone team, expressed confidence in his players' ability to adapt to varying conditions. With significant experience in both domestic and international cricket, the team is ready to face East Zone for the coveted title in Chennai.

Following the five-day match against East Zone, Varma will join the Indian squad for a T20 series against Afghanistan. He acknowledged the potential difficulties of transitioning from a lengthy Duleep Trophy final to the shorter T20 format. However, he noted that a break in Delhi would provide ample time for recovery, practice, and physical management before the format switch. Varma shared his thoughts with reporters in Chennai ahead of the final.

Challenges of Switching Formats

"We have sufficient experience playing in various domestic matches, which helps us adjust to different conditions. However, transitioning from a five-day match to joining the T20I team can be a bit challenging. Fortunately, we will have a two-day break in Delhi, allowing us to practice and prepare adequately. We are accustomed to managing our mindsets and maintaining hydration, having played consecutive games in both domestic and international settings," Varma explained.

Leveraging Experience for a Smooth Transition

Varma, who has participated in all three formats over the last four months, including List A matches for India A in Sri Lanka, is relying on this experience to facilitate a smooth transition between formats. Additionally, East Zone captain Ishan Kishan and vice-captain Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will also navigate a three-day gap between the Duleep Trophy final and the T20 matches against Afghanistan.
