Diya Mattipati's Triumph at the Junior Pickleball Championship


In a remarkable achievement, Diya Mattipati from Telangana secured the Under 18 Girls Singles championship during India's first Junior Pickleball Championship, sanctioned by the Indian Pickleball Association (IPA). The event took place at the Dinkers Pickleball Academy in Ahmedabad on June 14. Diya triumphed over Ashritha Raju with a score of 21-17 in a thrilling final, showcasing her exceptional skills and composure throughout the tournament.


Diya's journey to the final was impressive, as she first defeated Naomi Amalsadiwala 21-14 in the semifinals, following a hard-fought victory against Swaina Kataria, winning 21-18 in the opening round. Ashritha also had a commendable run, defeating Anushka Chhabria 21-11 in the semifinals after an easy win over Sanchi Sandeep, where she scored 21-5 in the first round.


The championship match was highly anticipated, and both players demonstrated their talent and determination, but it was Diya who emerged victorious. In the third-place playoff, Naomi made a strong comeback, defeating Anushka 15-5 to claim the bronze medal.


This Junior Championship is a significant milestone for Indian pickleball, marking the country's first-ever junior national event. The performances at this tournament are expected to play a crucial role in the selection process for upcoming international competitions, including the Pickleball World Cup scheduled to take place in Da Nang, Vietnam.
