Dhruv Jurel Set to Shine in Final Test of Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy
Jurel's Opportunity in the Spotlight
London [UK], July 29: Sitanshu Kotak, the batting coach for India, is confident that the exceptionally talented Dhruv Jurel is ready to make a significant impact in the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at The Oval, starting Thursday.
With vice-captain Rishabh Pant sidelined due to a broken right foot, Jurel is anticipated to take on the wicketkeeping duties. The 24-year-old stepped in after Pant suffered a finger injury during the third Test at Lord's and again in Manchester over a week later.
Kotak expressed his belief in Jurel's abilities, emphasizing that despite limited match experience in England, the young player has been diligently honing his skills in the nets.
“Dhruv is an exceptional talent. He is a skilled keeper and a capable batsman who has been preparing well. All players, whether in the lineup or not, maintain professionalism,” Kotak stated during a press conference on Tuesday.
“We ensure that every player gets ample practice in batting and bowling. Specifically regarding Dhruv, he is a gifted player who has already showcased his talent for India,” he added.
Jurel faced criticism for conceding several byes during the third Test, particularly on the leg side. Kotak acknowledged the challenges of wicketkeeping, especially with inconsistent bounce, but remains confident in Jurel's skills and readiness to bat.
“All players must stay prepared for any situation, including injuries. I believe he is in the right mindset. Rishabh's finger injury meant Dhruv had to keep during tough conditions, which led to a few byes,” he explained.
“In the subsequent match, he again kept wickets due to Rishabh's foot injury. He has sufficient experience behind the stumps. As for batting, he is well-prepared and exceptionally talented. He will certainly give his best,” Kotak concluded.
Prior to this series, Jurel demonstrated his form by scoring three consecutive fifties for India A against the England Lions in two unofficial Tests. He has a history of performing well against England, highlighted by his match-winning 90 in Ranchi during last year's home Test against the Three Lions.
