Deonna Purrazzo Discusses Challenges and Aspirations Amid AEW Hiatus
Deonna Purrazzo's AEW Journey and Current Status
Deonna Purrazzo, upon joining All Elite Wrestling (AEW), voiced her eagerness for more opportunities from the organization. However, her absence from AEW programming has extended, leaving her in a prolonged hiatus despite her evident talent.
After an initial setback in WWE, Purrazzo established herself as a key player in TNA Impact, showcasing her technical prowess in the ring. Yet, her journey in professional wrestling has been complicated by her unique physical condition, particularly her neck issues.
Deonna Purrazzo Seemingly Unhappy Over Absence From 2025 AEW Programming
In a recent episode of The Lightweights Podcast with Joe Vulpis, Purrazzo discussed the challenges she faces in the ring, particularly naming bodyslams as one of the most painful moves. She also revealed her ongoing battle with scoliosis, which has necessitated adjustments in her wrestling style.
“I have scoliosis, so my neck has like a slight curve to it and I just from childhood have like bulging discs and stuff like that—just had to work through my whole life. Those Jersey school textbooks carrying on my back,” she explained.
Navigating Training with Caution
Purrazzo is mindful of her condition, especially considering the case of former WWE star Paige, who had to retire due to a similar vertebrae issue. AEW provided Paige a chance to return to wrestling, and Purrazzo is cautious about her training to avoid injuries.
“I just have to be aware of those potential injuries. So a lot of people like to do neck bridges and stuff like that… that doesn’t feel good for me. A couple training schools want you to hang your neck over the edge of the ring and pick it up—that’s very uncomfortable for me.” (quotes courtesy Fightful)

Her careful approach has helped Purrazzo avoid significant injuries during her career. She relies on chiropractic care to manage her scoliosis, feeling fortunate that it hasn't hindered her progress.
Since joining AEW, Purrazzo has expressed a strong desire to appear more frequently on the Dynamite show. However, the competitive nature of the AEW women's division has resulted in her being sidelined, yet she remains hopeful about climbing the ranks in the future.
