NBA Star DeMarcus Cousins in India

New Delhi, May 9: DeMarcus Cousins, a four-time NBA All-Star, has expressed admiration for the basketball talent emerging from India, emphasizing the country's significant potential for the sport's growth. Cousins, alongside basketball legend Isiah Thomas, is in India for the BUDX NBA House event, which is being held on May 9 and 10 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.


In an interview, Cousins, who secured an Olympic gold medal at the 2016 Rio Games, shared his enthusiasm for contributing to the advancement of basketball in India by imparting his knowledge and experiences. He noted the impressive talent he has observed during his visit and conveyed optimism about the future of basketball in the region.


“I feel privileged to be here and am eager to share my insights and experiences to help elevate the game in India. I have witnessed some remarkable talent firsthand, and the potential is undoubtedly there,” Cousins remarked.


Having played for the Sacramento Kings from 2010 to 2017, Cousins pointed out that Indian players require more exposure to elite coaching, training, and competitive play to fully realize their basketball capabilities. He believes that the essential skills and attributes needed for success in basketball are already present among Indian players.


“It’s crucial to learn the game and gain experience through practice and competition. They need access to high-quality training and development to enhance their growth in basketball. The fundamental qualities are certainly there,” he added.


The NBA All-Star title is awarded to players recognized as top performers in the league each season, with the All-Star Game showcasing these elite athletes based on fan votes, player performance, and input from media and coaches.


The BUDX NBA House event promises an energetic and immersive experience for fans, celebrating the fusion of basketball, music, style, and culture.


Attendees can enjoy basketball-themed activities, live performances from artists such as NAV, Oppidan, Yashraj, Reble, Fijiana, The Bausa, and Chor Bazaar. A celebrity 3-on-3 game will feature personalities like Shanaya Kapoor, Rannvijay Singha, Arvind Krishna, Varun Sood, Sonia Rathee, Simran Kaur, Harman Singha, Shireen Limaye, Lalrina Renthlei, Dhruv Barman, and Anant Ahuja.


BUDX NBA House 2026 will also host BUDX Masterclasses, which include expert-led workshops and panel discussions aimed at educating and engaging upcoming artists, DJs, and fans, along with streetwear showcases and a variety of food and beverage experiences.
