Women's Cricket in Delhi Takes a Leap Forward

In a significant advancement for women's cricket in Delhi, the Central Delhi Queens, North Delhi Strikers, East Delhi Riders, and South Delhi Superstarz have finalized their rosters for the second season of the Delhi Premier League (DPL). This season promises an exhilarating blend of both emerging talents and seasoned players.

The DPL auction was marked by fierce competition, with standout players like Tanisha Singh fetching Rs 13 lakh, Nazma at Rs 12.5 lakh, Monika for Rs 10 lakh, and Purva Siwach at Rs 9.75 lakh. Franchises recognized the potential of these players, making substantial investments to secure their talents for the upcoming season.

Rohan Jaitley, President of the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA), expressed pride in the league's progress, stating, “This is a proud moment for us. The DPL has been among the few leagues to feature a women's edition from the beginning. This season, we have expanded participation and reinforced the domestic framework. Over 600 girls participated in our recent club-level tournament, marking a significant milestone for women's cricket in Delhi. With the increasing interest and talent, we plan to introduce more teams, players, and matches in future seasons.”

The Central Delhi Queens, who previously retained Deeksha Sharma, made a strategic move by acquiring experienced player Monika for Rs 10 lakh and successfully used their Right to Match (RTM) card to bring back promising spinner Parunika Sisodia.

East Delhi Riders demonstrated their confidence in seasoned Indian batter Priya Punia by retaining her before the auction due to her reliable performances. They further enhanced their squad by investing in talented all-rounder Purva Siwach and left-arm medium pacer Pragya Rawat, both viewed as exciting additions for the upcoming season.

North Delhi Strikers had already secured Upasana Yadav prior to the auction and further strengthened their lineup by adding Nazma, a highly sought-after player who ignited a bidding frenzy between Central Delhi Queens and South Delhi Superstarz. Ultimately, the Strikers exercised their RTM to bring her back into their squad.

South Delhi Superstarz retained star batter Shweta Sehrawat before the auction and made a notable investment in rising talents like Tanisha Singh and Ekta Bhadana, indicating their commitment to building a robust and youthful team.
