Minister Verma Attends Basketball Championship
New Delhi, December 27: On Saturday, Delhi's Minister Parvesh Verma participated in the Harish Sharma 3×3 All India Basketball Championship held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium.
He was accompanied by Sudhanshu Mittal, co-chair of the organizing committee, Mukesh Kalia, president of the Delhi Basketball Association, and Roopam Harish Sharma, chairperson of the organizing committee.
During a press interaction, Verma noted that the sports sector in India has experienced significant advancements since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office. He emphasized that the Prime Minister has engaged with athletes nationwide and that numerous new sports facilities have been established during this time.
Furthermore, Verma mentioned that the Delhi government has introduced unprecedented cash rewards for athletes who secure medals in international competitions.
“Under PM Modi's leadership, sports have reached new heights. He has engaged with every athlete, and many new stadiums are being constructed. Recently, the Delhi government announced record cash prizes for medal-winning athletes at international events,” stated Minister Verma.
Sudhanshu Mittal remarked that the 3×3 basketball format is poised to revolutionize the sport, similar to how T20 transformed cricket. “Today marks a historic occasion. Harish Sharma, a remarkable figure in basketball, dedicated his life to the sport. This tournament, held in his honor, is significant. The 3×3 format represents the future of basketball, and we are witnessing intense competition today,” Mittal expressed.
“Every basketball enthusiast is filled with excitement. The joy is unparalleled. Just as T20 changed cricket, this 3×3 format will forever alter basketball,” he added.
Roopam Harish Sharma addressed the safety protocols in place for player injuries. “The All India Basketball Championship is a major endorsement in itself, especially with FIBA's recognition. We will conduct 155 matches, providing every player with the opportunity to participate due to the 3-on-3 format,” Sharma explained.
“We have prioritized safety by installing protective barriers. Two medical rooms, doctors, and an ambulance are on standby to ensure player safety. We are pleased that everything is proceeding smoothly so far,” she concluded.
