Inauguration of Narela Bus Depot

On Friday, Delhi's Chief Minister Rekha Gupta officially opened the Narela bus depot and introduced 100 electric buses that will serve nine routes throughout the city.

During the inauguration, the Chief Minister emphasized the administration's dedication to upgrading the public transportation system, aiming to revitalize Delhi's bus services and ensure they are back on track.

"We have inaugurated the Narela Bus Depot and dedicated 100 Devi electric buses for operation on nine routes. These buses come with excellent facilities. This depot was completed in just three months. Our objective is to transition Delhi's public transport to electric, modernize the system, and minimize public inconvenience," she stated to the media following the event.

Accompanying her were Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh and BJP MP Yogendra Chandolia. Earlier, Chandolia highlighted that the Rekha Gupta-led government has considered rural areas in its planning and is contributing to environmental conservation with the newly launched electric buses.

"With a focus on rural areas, the Delhi government has set up a DTC depot here, and 105 smaller buses will operate from this location. This initiative is part of our commitment to protecting Delhi's environment. Women will travel for free on these electric buses, which will also help alleviate traffic congestion," he remarked.

He further asserted the aim of fully electrifying the bus fleet while criticizing the Aam Aadmi Party for failing to deliver on promises, stating, "In the future, all buses in Delhi will be electric to enhance the environment. The Aam Aadmi Party has only spread falsehoods; had they acted timely, they wouldn't be in opposition now."

On World Environment Day (June 5), CM Gupta had announced plans to add 280 electric buses to Delhi's fleet by 2027 as part of a broader electric vehicle (EV) policy. In a previous statement, she noted, "We have committed to providing 280 electric buses to Delhi. By 2027, the entire fleet from the Delhi government will be electric. We are also introducing a new EV policy." CM Gupta praised the new buses, describing them as a significant asset for Delhi, highlighting their comfort and safety features.
