Vadodara: In a thrilling Women's Premier League final, Jemimah Rodrigues led her team with an impressive half-century, while Chinelle Henry made a rapid contribution of 35 runs off just 15 balls, helping Delhi Capitals set a formidable target of 203 runs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Laura Wolvaardt also played a crucial role, remaining unbeaten with 44 runs from 25 deliveries, and Lizelle Lee added 37 runs off 30 balls as the Capitals capitalized after being put to bat first. Rodrigues scored 57 runs off 37 balls, showcasing her batting prowess.
The Royal Challengers started strong, with Lauren Bell and Sayali Satghare limiting the Capitals to just nine runs in the initial three overs, as Shafali Verma and Lee struggled to find their rhythm.
However, the fourth over marked a turning point, as Lee hit Satghare for two consecutive sixes, breaking the shackles and allowing the Capitals to gain momentum.
An exciting stumping appeal from Richa Ghosh followed, but Satghare missed a challenging caught and bowled opportunity, leading to a 20-run over that revitalized the Capitals after a slow start.
By the end of five overs, the Capitals had reached 36 runs, prompting skipper Smriti Mandhana to bring Arundhati Reddy into the bowling attack. Shafali quickly responded with two boundaries, but Reddy struck back, dismissing her with a well-placed short ball caught by Ghosh.
Wolvaardt began her innings with a beautiful boundary, and Lee continued her assault against off-spinner Shreyanka Patil, hitting two fours and a six in quick succession, propelling the Capitals to 72 runs for one wicket in seven overs.
Nadine de Klerk eventually ended Lee's innings, as the opener mistimed a shot, allowing Grace Harris to take a straightforward catch.
Rodrigues then joined Wolvaardt, and the pair expertly maneuvered the ball, building a partnership of 76 runs and keeping the pressure firmly on RCB.
