Axar Patel Reflects on Fielding Mistakes

In a recent Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Axar Patel acknowledged that their fielding errors significantly impacted their performance, leading to a 23-run defeat against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Patel noted, "We started well, but during the chase, we lost two or three wickets quickly after the power play, which disrupted our momentum. The fielding lapses were crucial; whenever we lost wickets, they came in pairs, making it increasingly challenging for us."

Bowling Performance and Missed Opportunities

While Patel praised his bowlers for limiting CSK to around 215 runs, he expressed disappointment over dropped catches that hindered their chase. He stated, "The batsmen did reasonably well, but our fielding was subpar. Chasing 213-215 runs was achievable. The bowlers did an excellent job, but if we hadn't missed a couple of catches, the outcome might have been different."

He also dismissed the notion that the pitch conditions changed, attributing the difficulties faced by his team to the dew and the quality of CSK's bowling.

CSK Celebrates First Victory of the Season

Chennai Super Kings secured their inaugural win of the season, breaking a six-match losing streak with a 23-run victory over Delhi Capitals. The match featured a remarkable unbeaten century from Sanju Samson and a stellar four-wicket performance by Jamie Overton, who dismantled the DC batting order.

Samson, after being invited to bat, scored an impressive 115 runs off 56 balls, including 15 fours and four sixes, while Ayush Mhatre supported him with a quick 59 runs. CSK finished their innings at a formidable 212/2.

In response, DC started strong with a 62-run partnership between Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul, but they lost wickets in clusters, ultimately being bowled out for 189 runs. Jamie Overton's exceptional bowling figures of 4/18 and Anshul Kamboj's 3/35 were pivotal in CSK's victory.

Current Standings

Following this match, CSK climbed to ninth place in the points table with one win and three losses, while DC remained in fourth position with two wins and two losses.
