Delhi Capitals Appoint Amit Mishra as Spin Bowling Coach for IPL 2027
Amit Mishra Takes on Coaching Role
The Delhi Capitals (DC) have announced the hiring of former Indian spinner Amit Mishra as their spin bowling coach for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 season. Mishra brings a wealth of experience, having participated in 162 IPL matches across four different franchises. This will mark his debut in coaching within the IPL after a distinguished playing career.
Mishra has previously played for teams such as Delhi Daredevils (now known as Delhi Capitals), Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Lucknow Super Giants.
"The OG Tiger has returned! Amit Mishra, our all-time leading wicket-taker, is now our spin-bowling coach," DC announced in a post on X.
Mishra's Impressive IPL Record
Having retired from professional cricket in September, Mishra is recognized as one of the top wicket-takers in IPL history, with a total of 174 wickets from his 162 matches. He also holds the record for the most hat-tricks in the tournament, achieving this feat three times during his IPL career.
DC celebrated his return with a heartfelt message on social media: "2008 ⏩ 2027 Welcome back home, Mishra ji ❤️".
Chaminda Vaas Joins the Coaching Team
In addition to Mishra, DC has also brought on board Sri Lankan cricket legend Chaminda Vaas as their bowling coach. Vaas is celebrated as one of Sri Lanka's finest cricketers, ranking third in the country’s Test wicket-takers with 355 wickets and second in ODIs with 400 wickets. He has also accumulated 3,089 runs in 111 Test matches and 2,025 runs in 322 ODIs.
Vaas will be part of a revamped coaching staff under head coach Sourav Ganguly. The franchise has also appointed Yuvraj Singh as the assistant and batting coach for IPL 2027. Vaas replaces Munaf Patel, who served as the bowling coach for the last two seasons.
