Deepak Chahar's Bizarre Bat Theft Incident
Deepak Chahar, a bowling all-rounder for the Mumbai Indians, has recently gained attention on social media after expressing shock over the theft of his bats from the Chahar Cricket Academy in Agra, Uttar Pradesh.
Chahar trains at this facility, which is owned by his father, Lokendra Singh Chahar, where many local young cricketers also practice. After participating in the Indian Premier League this year, where he took 8 wickets in 8 matches, he has resumed training.
Since 2023, Chahar has been sidelined from the national team due to a series of injuries. In the last domestic season, he played for Rajasthan in the Ranji Trophy, claiming four wickets in three matches before a hip injury ended his season prematurely.
The Theft and Chahar's Reaction
As he prepares for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season starting on October 11, Chahar faced an unexpected setback when three of his player-edition bats, worth approximately INR 1.5 lakh, disappeared from the academy grounds.
In a humorous video shared on his Instagram, Chahar speculated that the thief might not understand the true value of the bats and jokingly mentioned three possible actions: filing a police report, contacting Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath or Prime Minister Narendra Modi, or simply praying for divine intervention.
Chahar remarked, "They were excellent bats. The thief likely doesn't realize how valuable they are. He might sell them or use them for tennis."
Valuable Equipment and Future Considerations
Chahar's bats, made by SS (Sareen Sports), are valued at around INR 50,000 each, contributing to the total worth of the stolen items. These professional-grade bats are tailored for elite cricket, making them significantly pricier than standard models available to amateur players.
Reflecting on the theft, Chahar expressed a willingness to offer the thief money instead of dealing with the loss of his cherished equipment. He humorously suggested he could ask for additional bats from the SSA.
Chahar's last international match for India was a T20I against Australia in December 2023, and since then, he has focused on domestic cricket and the IPL as he aims to regain his top form.
