The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have confirmed that England fast bowler David Payne will miss the remainder of the IPL 2026 season due to an ankle injury. This news was shared by the franchise on Thursday.


In a post on their social media platform, SRH stated, "OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: David Payne has been ruled out of the TATA IPL 2026 after sustaining an ankle injury. We wish him a speedy recovery."


Payne's Performance in IPL 2026

During his brief stint in IPL 2026, Payne participated in two matches, where he claimed two wickets with an average of 35.00, achieving a best bowling figure of 2/35.


Notably, Payne was initially brought in as a replacement for Australian all-rounder Jack Edwards, who was sidelined due to injury.


Payne's Career Highlights

In addition to his IPL appearances, Payne has played one One Day International (ODI) for England and has an impressive record in T20 cricket, having taken 306 wickets across 235 matches.


He joined SRH for a fee of Rs 1.5 Crore.


Jack Edwards, who was replaced by Payne, had an outstanding performance in the Big Bash League (BBL) last year, finishing as the second-highest wicket-taker with 19 wickets in 13 matches, averaging 18.47. He also scored 133 runs in 10 innings, with a strike rate exceeding 168 and a top score of 46*.

Looking ahead, SRH is set to compete against the five-time champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), at their home venue, the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on April 18.
