Dasun Shanaka Lauds Riyan Parag as Future Leader Ahead of IPL Eliminator
Rajasthan Royals Prepare for IPL Showdown
As the Rajasthan Royals gear up for their Indian Premier League (IPL) eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), all-rounder Dasun Shanaka has praised captain Riyan Parag, calling him a "great leader in the making" for both the franchise and the Indian national team.
RR's Journey to the Eliminator
Rajasthan is on a quest for their second IPL title, facing SRH in the eliminator. The victor will advance to Qualifier Two to compete against Gujarat Titans (GT) for a chance to reach the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The season has been tumultuous for RR, who began with four consecutive victories but then lost four out of the next six matches. They managed to secure their playoff position on the last day with a crucial win against the Mumbai Indians (MI), finishing with two wins and two losses in their final four games.
Challenges Under Riyan Parag's Captaincy
The inconsistent performance of the batting lineup has raised questions about Riyan's leadership. He has struggled with the bat, accumulating only 272 runs in 12 innings, averaging 24.72 with a strike rate exceeding 152.
Shanaka's Confidence in Parag
In a pre-match press conference, Shanaka expressed his confidence in Parag, stating, "Riyan is a young captain who is still learning. He has performed admirably this year. While he faces criticism, I believe he is developing into a great leader for both RR and Team India."
The Influence of Kumar Sangakkara
Shanaka also acknowledged the positive impact of Kumar Sangakkara, the team's head coach and fellow Sri Lankan. He noted Sangakkara's extensive experience and ability to maintain a calm atmosphere in the dressing room. "Sanga has been with the team for five to six years and knows how to support each player. His experience as a World Cup-winning captain is invaluable," Shanaka remarked.
Praise for Young Talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
Shanaka commended 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who has scored 583 runs this season at an average of 41.64 and a strike rate of 232.27, including a century and three fifties. Despite a disappointing performance against MI, where he scored only four runs, Shanaka remains optimistic about the young player's potential. He stated, "Vaibhav may not have started well against MI, but we have many match-winners in our squad. His professionalism and demeanor in the dressing room are impressive. I see great potential in him, and he handles pressure remarkably well for his age."
