Daren Sammy Fined for Code of Conduct Breach During Test Match

Daren Sammy Faces Penalty for Comments
New Delhi [India], June 29: Daren Sammy, the head coach of the West Indies cricket team, has been penalized 15% of his match fee due to a Level 1 violation of the ICC Code of Conduct. This incident occurred on the second day of the first Test, which the West Indies won by 159 runs, thanks to Josh Hazlewood's impressive bowling figures of 5-43 in Bridgetown.
The fine stems from remarks Sammy made during a media session at the conclusion of Day 2, where he expressed dissatisfaction with one of the match officials regarding several incidents that took place during the day's play.
At 41 years old, Sammy was found in breach of Article 2.7 of the Code, which addresses 'public criticism of or inappropriate comments regarding incidents in an International Match or any Player, Player Support Personnel, Match Official, or team involved in an International Match.'
Consequently, Sammy has also received one demerit point on his disciplinary record, marking his first infraction within a 24-month timeframe.
Sammy acknowledged the violation and accepted the penalty suggested by ICC Elite Panel Match Referee Javagal Srinath, following the charge brought forth by on-field umpires Richard Kettleborough and Nitin Menon, along with third umpire Adrian Holdstock and fourth umpire Gregory Brathwaite.
Level 1 violations can result in a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum fine of 50% of the match fee, in addition to one or two demerit points.
The Australian team triumphed over the West Indies by 159 runs after the home side lost all ten wickets in the final session of Day 3 while attempting to chase a target of 301 runs in a match filled with dramatic moments.
The second Test is scheduled to commence on Thursday, July 3, at the National Cricket Stadium in St George's.
