Ultimate Frisbee League Concludes with Thrilling Championship

The vibrant city of Mumbai recently hosted the exciting finale of the Refex Mumbai Ultimate League (MUL) Season 5 at Wings Arena in Bandra, showcasing the dynamic sport of Ultimate Frisbee.


Organized by Off-Season Ultimate (OSU), this season featured four weekends of fierce competition, culminating in a nail-biting championship match where the Dancing Dragons claimed their second consecutive title with a 15-12 victory over the Desi Hawks.


Since its launch on April 13, MUL Season 5 has brought together six teams, making it one of the most rapidly growing sporting leagues in Mumbai. Over 30 matches were played during the four weekends, highlighting India's emerging talent in Ultimate Frisbee and fostering community engagement through sports, as noted in a press release from OSU.


In the championship clash, the Desi Hawks initially took the lead, but the Dancing Dragons quickly countered with two points. The match was characterized by intense exchanges, strategic offensive maneuvers, and tight defense, keeping spectators on the edge of their seats. As the game progressed, the Dragons established a three-point lead, but the Hawks mounted a fierce comeback in the final minutes. With the score at 14-11 and time running out, the match entered extra time, requiring a minimum of 15 points for victory. Rahul Bariya (Kali) ultimately scored the winning point, securing the championship for the Dancing Dragons.


Earlier in the tournament, the Dancing Dragons had narrowly defeated the Desi Hawks 11-9 in the first qualifier, earning a direct spot in the finals. Meanwhile, on Field 2, Bumbai Bantais triumphed over Reborn Fire in a close Eliminator match, winning 9-8 to keep their title hopes alive.


In Qualifier 2, the Desi Hawks rebounded by narrowly defeating Bumbai Bantais 9-8, setting up a rematch against the Dragons in the final. The Afterburners concluded their season on a high note, finishing fifth with an 11-9 victory over Bombay Rhinos in the classification match.
