Cristiano Ronaldo Invests in UD Almeria: A New Chapter in Football Ownership
Ronaldo Takes a Stake in UD Almeria
New Delhi, February 26: Renowned Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo has secured a 25% ownership interest in the Spanish club UD Almeria, which competes in the country's second division, as reported by a leading sports network.
While the financial specifics of this deal, facilitated through Ronaldo's CR7 Sports Investments, remain undisclosed, it is viewed as a strategic long-term investment for the 41-year-old athlete, who is nearing the end of his illustrious career. Ronaldo has played for prestigious clubs including Sporting CP, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, and currently Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
In a statement, Ronaldo expressed, “I have always aspired to contribute to football beyond my playing days.”
He further remarked, “UD Almeria is a club with a solid foundation and significant growth potential. I am eager to collaborate with the team to support its new phase of development.”
Last May, UD Almeria was acquired by a Saudi investment group, marking another connection for Ronaldo, who has shown interest in club ownership post-retirement.
Ronaldo's contract with Al Nassr was extended until June 2027, and he is anticipated to represent Portugal in his record sixth FIFA World Cup this year.
Mohamed al Khereiji, president of UD Almeria, expressed enthusiasm about having the five-time Ballon d'Or winner involved. “He is regarded as the best on the field,” Al Khereiji stated. “His familiarity with the Spanish leagues and understanding of our vision for the team and youth academy is invaluable.”
UD Almeria was relegated to the second division in April 2024 but is currently on track to secure promotion to La Liga, sitting third in the standings, just two points behind leaders Racing Santander after 27 matches.
