Yuzvendra Chahal's Transformation Ahead of IPL 2026
Chahal's Commitment to Punjab Kings
As the IPL 2026 prepares to commence its 19th season on March 28, Yuzvendra Chahal is set to be a pivotal player for the Punjab Kings. After finishing as runners-up last season, the team is determined to clinch their first championship title. Chahal, a crucial spinner in the squad, has recently opened up about his personal journey regarding alcohol addiction. In a candid discussion with South African cricket icon AB de Villiers, he shared that he has been sober for over six months. This decision stems from his desire to enhance his performance and contribute significantly to the Punjab Kings. He expressed his hope that younger players can draw inspiration from his experiences as a senior member of the team. “I’ve stopped drinking alcohol for more than six months now. At 35, I aim to be more active and give my all for my team. I want the younger players in the IPL to learn from my journey,” Chahal stated.
Focus on Health and Performance
'Prioritizing My Physical Well-being'
In the same podcast, Chahal reflected on his previous season's challenges, particularly the injuries he sustained during IPL 2025. He faced a rib fracture following a match against KKR and later fractured his knuckle before the playoffs, which hindered his ability to bowl effectively during critical matches. This year, he is committed to prioritizing his health. “I felt let down by my performance due to injuries. After the KKR match, I suffered a rib fracture, and then my knuckle was injured. Consequently, I couldn’t bowl my leg-spin properly in the semifinal and final. This season, my focus is on taking care of my body first,” the accomplished leg-spinner added.
