Yuvraj Singh Remembers Young Bumrah's Intensity During Comeback
Yuvraj Singh Reflects on Early Encounter with Jasprit Bumrah
In a recent interview on the Overlap Cricket YouTube channel with Michael Vaughan, former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh recounted a memorable moment from his comeback journey. He recalled a time in 2013 when a 16-year-old Jasprit Bumrah was bowling at an impressive speed during net practice. Yuvraj humorously mentioned that he had to ask the young pacer to stop, saying, 'I want this kid out of the nets, stop bowling to me,' as he was recovering from cancer and trying to return to the sport.
Yuvraj described Bumrah's bowling as lethal, stating, 'This guy was bowling lethally. I was like, ‘Kid, stop—whoever you are!' He noted that even at a young age, Bumrah showcased remarkable speed and a unique bowling style.
He elaborated on Bumrah's long run-up and the deceptive bounce he generated, which often troubled batsmen. Yuvraj praised Bumrah's evolution into one of the most formidable bowlers in contemporary cricket, emphasizing that batsmen are often hesitant to attack him, preferring to rotate the strike against other bowlers instead.
Bumrah's prowess was evident during a recent marquee tournament where he played a crucial role in helping India secure the T20 World Cup trophy on March 8. He took two wickets in a Super 8 match against the West Indies, including the key wicket of Shimron Hetmyer, and delivered an outstanding performance in the semi-final against England, where he restricted runs effectively.
In the final against New Zealand, Bumrah's exceptional bowling earned him the Player of the Match award, further solidifying his status as a leading fast bowler. Currently, he is competing in the IPL 2026 season with the Mumbai Indians, a team he has helped lead to multiple championships.
