Yuvraj Singh Commends Shubman Gill's Performance

London [UK], July 9: Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh expressed his admiration for test captain Shubman Gill after his outstanding display in both innings during the Birmingham Test at Edgbaston, part of the five-match series against England.

Gill has seamlessly adapted to the number four batting position, a role historically occupied by cricket legends such as Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.

Leading the run charts in the series, Gill has amassed 585 runs across two Tests and four innings, boasting an impressive average of 146.25 and a strike rate exceeding 73. His remarkable innings included three centuries, with a standout score of 269 runs off 387 balls at Edgbaston.

Commenting on Gill's captaincy and batting, Yuvraj stated, “Shubman Gill showcased exceptional leadership and performed brilliantly with the bat. I take great pride in him, and I’m sure his father feels the same… I’m truly impressed and hope he continues to score many centuries in international cricket.”

Gill's historic batting performance, coupled with a ten-wicket haul from pacer Akash Deep, marked a significant team effort as India broke their winless streak in Birmingham, clinching a 336-run victory over England in the second Test on the final day.

This victory has leveled the five-match series at 1-1, and it marks India’s first win at Edgbaston after enduring seven losses and a draw.

Reflecting on the Indian team's overall performance in the second Test, Yuvraj remarked, “The Indian team's performance was exceptional. Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep bowled brilliantly, while Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant contributed significantly with the bat… I’m particularly happy for Akash Deep, especially as his sister is recovering from cancer. I look forward to giving him a big hug when we meet.”

Yuvraj Singh attended the YouWeCan charity event in London on Tuesday, alongside former England cricketers Kevin Pietersen and Darren Gough.

At the charity event, Yuvraj shared, “It’s amazing to see so many people supporting me and the foundation, including friends and family who have witnessed my battle with cancer… I hope we can raise a million tonight; if not, we will continue our efforts to do good work.”
