Yuvraj Singh Apologizes for Father's Controversial Remarks on Dhoni and Kapil Dev
Yuvraj Singh Addresses Father's Comments
Yuvraj Singh, the former Indian all-rounder and World Cup champion, has distanced himself from the recent controversial statements made by his father, Yograj Singh, regarding Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Kapil Dev. Yuvraj expressed that his father's remarks were "not acceptable" and offered a heartfelt apology for them.
In a discussion on the podcast 'Sports Tak', Yuvraj tackled the sensitive topic of his father's accusations against Dhoni, claiming he was responsible for Yuvraj's removal from the national squad, as well as past grievances with Kapil regarding selection.
Yuvraj stated, "I want to apologize to both Kapil and MS Dhoni for the comments made. Kapil paaji has been an outstanding player for India. The nature of their relationship is something I am unaware of, as I wasn't even born then," he remarked.
He continued, "Having played alongside MS Dhoni, I had certain expectations about our relationship. I conveyed to my father that his comments about Dhoni were inappropriate."
Yuvraj emphasized that both Kapil and Dhoni understand that his father's words do not reflect his own views. "Regardless of the circumstances, I sincerely apologize to both of them for the remarks. They know these words do not represent my thoughts. I hold immense respect for them as cricketers and for their contributions to our country," he added.
Yograj Singh had previously claimed that he was unjustly dropped by Kapil, leading to a heated confrontation at Kapil's residence before he decided to leave cricket. Regarding Dhoni, Yograj has accused the legendary captain of being the reason behind Yuvraj's exit from the team. After winning the World Cup in 2011, Yuvraj faced a battle with cancer before retiring in 2019, following his exclusion from that year's World Cup squad.
Yograj has stated that he holds Dhoni responsible for "ruining" Yuvraj's career and has expressed that he will never forgive him for it.
