Atiqa Mir's Remarkable Achievement in Karting

At just 11 years old, racing prodigy Atiqa Mir has made headlines by becoming the youngest Indian to secure two remarkable top-10 finishes during Round 4 of the FIA European Championship, a prestigious event in the karting arena.

Demonstrating exceptional speed and determination, Atiqa clinched ninth and tenth places in the heat races within the 12-14 age category. As the first Indian supported by F1 Academy, she qualified in P11, impressively just 0.13 seconds behind the fastest time, showcasing the fierce competition she faced.

Competing as a wildcard in her second FIA event, the Kashmiri-origin racer held her own against competitors aged up to 14, proving her mettle as one of the youngest participants.

With previous race victories and pole positions in her growing career, Atiqa expressed satisfaction with her performance in Sweden, especially given the challenges of the FIA European Championship, often referred to as the 'Formula 1' of karting.

"I’m thrilled with how I performed here. We met all our goals and gained valuable technical insights from these FIA events. My driving has improved, and I believe that with more experience, I can contend for top positions. I feel prepared for a full championship next year," she stated.

Her father, Asif Mir, who is recognized as India’s first national karting champion, praised her for surpassing expectations against more seasoned drivers.

"Atiqa displayed remarkable maturity for her age. Competing against elite karters, including those in Formula 1 junior programs, her qualifying speed was very promising, with only a tenth of a second separating her from the fastest time. She still has much to learn, but racing among the best offers her invaluable learning opportunities. We anticipate being in contention for the championship next year. At just 11, she has plenty of time ahead of her," Asif remarked.

Earlier in May, Atiqa set another record by becoming the youngest Indian to finish sixth in Round 2 of the FIA European Championship held in Spain.

The European Championship represents the pinnacle of karting, governed directly by the FIA.
