Yograj Singh Backs Abhishek Sharma for World T20 Final Success
Yograj Singh's Confidence in Abhishek Sharma
Will Abhishek Sharma shine in the World T20 final? Will India secure the championship in Ahmedabad this Sunday? For Yograj Singh, a former Indian cricketer and Yuvraj Singh's father, the answers are clear. He confidently stated, "India will claim the trophy, and Abhishek will perform exceptionally in the final."
Despite Sharma's struggles throughout the tournament, especially against off-spinners, even his most ardent supporters may have reservations. However, Yograj remains unfazed. He believes that Abhishek is merely experiencing a temporary dip in form, a phase that even legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Viv Richards, and Virat Kohli have encountered during their remarkable careers.
"Abhishek is among India's finest, and we must exercise patience with him. Look at Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson; they have thrived after overcoming their own struggles," Yograj remarked. He emphasized that Abhishek should take his time at the crease before launching aggressive shots against bowlers.
"T20 cricket isn't solely about hitting boundaries. A batsman must also focus on rotating the strike and accumulating singles and doubles. He is still evolving and will ultimately become one of our top players. Therefore, there’s no need for concern," he added.
Yograj also dismissed worries regarding Abhishek's repeated dismissals to off-spinners during the tournament.
"Off-spinners can pose challenges for left-handed batsmen. Even greats like Brian Lara and Yuvraj Singh have faced difficulties against them. In Abhishek's case, he tends to lean back when attempting to drive or loft the spinners. I am confident that his coach, Yuvraj Singh, has recognized this and will address the issue," he explained.
"Yuvraj has done an outstanding job mentoring him. I firmly believe we will witness a significant performance from Abhishek in the final," Yograj concluded.
Regarding India's prospects in the championship match, Yograj expressed optimism about the hosts clinching their second consecutive World T20 title. "The team appeared somewhat overconfident after their loss to South Africa, but they have since found a solid rhythm. I have no doubt that India will lift the trophy on Sunday," he stated.
