West Indies Triumph Over Ireland in Rain-Shortened T20 Series
West Indies Secures Series Victory
In a thrilling encounter, the West Indies achieved their second-highest total in Twenty20 internationals, defeating Ireland by 62 runs to win the rain-affected three-match series 1-0.
Batting first at Bready Cricket Club, the West Indies scored 256 runs for the loss of five wickets, thanks to a remarkable opening partnership of 122 runs in just 10.3 overs between Evin Lewis, who scored 91 runs off 44 balls, and captain Shai Hope, who contributed 51 runs from 27 balls.
The West Indies showcased their power-hitting ability, smashing a total of 20 sixes, with Lewis hitting eight, while Hope and Keacy Carty, who remained unbeaten on 49 runs from 22 balls, each hit four sixes.
In response, Ireland managed to score 194 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Ross Adair was the standout performer with 48 runs off 36 balls, and Harry Tector added 38 runs from 25 balls, but the team faltered after reaching 114-1, eventually collapsing to 116-4 within 12 overs.
The first two matches of the series were abandoned due to rain.
Earlier in May, the two teams had drawn a three-match ODI series 1-1 in Dublin, while England recently completed a clean sweep against the West Indies in both ODI and T20 formats.
Reflecting on the victory, Hope expressed, 'It's great to bring something back to the Caribbean.'
Looking ahead, the West Indies are set to host Australia for a three-match Test series starting June 25 in Barbados, followed by a five-match T20 series. Australia is coming off a defeat in the World Test Championship final against South Africa in London.
