West Indies to Host Sri Lanka in Crucial ODI Series Ahead of 2027 World Cup
West Indies vs Sri Lanka ODI Series Overview
The ODI cricket season is set to shift to the Caribbean as the West Indies prepare to face Sri Lanka in a three-match ODI series starting on June 3. This series holds significant importance for both teams as they aim to secure their spots in the 2027 Cricket World Cup, which will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. Unlike other teams that are focusing on their preparations, both West Indies and Sri Lanka are still in the race for qualification. To clarify, the top eight teams in the ICC rankings, along with the host nations, will automatically qualify for the tournament, with a deadline set for March 31, 2027. The remaining six teams will need to compete in a qualifying tournament. Currently, Sri Lanka ranks sixth, while West Indies sits at ninth. The West Indies are eager to return to the World Cup after missing out in 2023, which featured ten teams, whereas the upcoming edition will expand to fourteen teams.
All three matches of the series will be held at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica. The first ODI is scheduled as a day match, while the latter two will be day-night fixtures.
