West Indies Players Face Reprimands for Code of Conduct Violations in T20I
Disciplinary Actions for West Indies Cricketers
New Delhi, October 12: Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford from the West Indies have received official reprimands for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second T20I match against India held in Ranchi on Friday, according to the ICC's official website.
Powell was found in violation of Article 2.2, which addresses the misuse of cricket equipment or clothing, as well as ground fixtures during an international match. Meanwhile, Rutherford breached Article 2.8, which pertains to expressing dissent towards an umpire's decision during the game.
Both players have also received one demerit point added to their disciplinary records, marking their first offence within a 24-month timeframe.
The incidents occurred during the match; Powell, after being bowled out by Mayank Yadav in the sixth over, struck the ball away with his bat, while Rutherford expressed his frustration at the umpire's decision in the 13th over, believing a delivery was wide.
Both athletes acknowledged their infractions and accepted the penalties suggested by Prakash Bhatt from the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, eliminating the need for formal hearings.
The on-field umpires, Jayaraman Madanagopal and Rohan Pandit, along with third umpire Nitin Menon and fourth umpire Virender Sharma, were responsible for levying the charges.
Level 1 violations carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, with a maximum fine of 50% of a player's match fee, and can result in one or two demerit points.
