Workload Management for West Indies Pace Bowlers

St John’s [Antigua], March 27: Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced a strategic approach to manage the workload of their fast-bowling trio: Jayden Seales, Shamar Joseph, and Alzarri Joseph, in preparation for an intense international cricket calendar.


According to the ICC, the West Indies will host Sri Lanka and Pakistan for two Test matches each as part of the ICC World Test Championship later this year. Additionally, they are scheduled to play a five-match ODI series against New Zealand, along with tours to India and Bangladesh towards the end of the year.


CWI is adopting a careful strategy regarding the pace bowlers, allowing Seales and Shamar to participate in select West Indies Championship matches, while Alzarri will forgo domestic cricket to compete in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).


Miles Bascombe, the CWI director, confirmed the decision to manage the workload of these bowlers to ensure they are in optimal condition for upcoming international matches. He stated, “Our fast bowlers are among our most valuable assets, and this season demands the best of them across every format and every competition,” as reported by the ICC.


He further emphasized, “The plans we have put in place are deliberate — we are being proactive and precise so that Jayden, Shamar, and Alzarri are fit, available, and at their sharpest when it counts most.”


Currently, the West Indies sit at the bottom of the ICC World Test Championship standings, having lost seven matches and drawn one. Their last Test series was against New Zealand, where they suffered a 2-0 defeat in a three-match series.
