West Indies Set for Series Against India
Port of Spain [Trinidad and Tobago], September 19: Cricket West Indies has revealed its teams for the upcoming three One Day Internationals and five T20 International matches against India, scheduled from September 27 to October 18 across eight different cities.
Under the leadership of Shai Hope, the West Indies will compete against the world's top-ranked team in both formats. The ODI squad retains many players who participated in the recent home series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand, as stated on the CWI website.
John Campbell is making a return to the squad after missing the last two ODIs against New Zealand due to a hamstring injury.
Ackeem Auguste has been ruled out of the tour as he continues his recovery following surgery in August. Jewel Andrew has been named as his replacement, providing options for both top and middle-order batting.

Shimron Hetmyer, who participated in the last two matches of the New Zealand series, is committed to the team but has been granted additional recovery time following the CPL and will join the squad for the T20 matches.
The initial two matches of the series will conclude the cycle for automatic qualification to the ICC Men’s 50-Over World Cup. However, regardless of the outcomes, the West Indies will not be able to surpass their closest competitors in the qualification standings and will thus take part in the ICC’s qualification tournament early next year.
Despite this situation, Head Coach Daren Sammy emphasized the significance of these matches.
“Competing against the top team globally gives us an opportunity to refine and enhance our performances as an ODI team, which has shown quality throughout the cycle,” he stated. “This series also serves as a crucial platform to evaluate players stepping into key roles with a long-term goal of competing in the World Cup in 2027,” Sammy added, as reported by the CWI website.
On the T20I side, promising opening batter Kamil Pooran has received his first call-up, showcasing a strategic approach to identifying and nurturing emerging talent ahead of the 2028 T20 World Cup.
The right-handed batsman accumulated 273 runs in eight innings at an impressive strike rate of 159.64, averaging 39.
Quentin Sampson, who was part of the ICC T20 World Cup squad earlier this year in India, has also been included, while all-rounder Jason Holder has been rested for this series.
The Head Coach discussed the squad's composition, which has been assembled with a clear focus on long-term goals.
“We aim to build on the momentum from our series victory against Sri Lanka, with the long-term objective of developing a robust core of players ahead of the next T20 World Cup. The challenge of facing the World Champions at home will provide essential preparation, enabling us to continue improving both individually and as a cohesive unit,” Sammy stated, as quoted by the CWI website.
The squad is set to leave the Caribbean on September 21 and will arrive in Trivandrum on September 23.
