West Bengal to Host Public Screenings for FIFA World Cup Excitement
Public Screenings of FIFA World Cup in West Bengal
Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], July 18: Dr. Indranil Khan, a minister in West Bengal, has revealed that the state government will be organizing public viewings of the FIFA World Cup to honor the strong passion and emotional ties that the local population has with football.
He emphasized that this initiative, which is unprecedented in the state, will see participation from the Chief Minister, various ministers, MLAs, and other public figures alongside fans in Kolkata and throughout West Bengal.
“Football is not just a sport; it’s a deep-seated emotion for the people of West Bengal. Recognizing this enthusiasm, the state government is setting up live public screenings of the World Cup. This is the first of its kind in our state. In Kolkata, the Chief Minister and senior officials will be present at the screenings. Across the state, ministers, MLAs, and other representatives will join local events to celebrate the tournament with the community,” Khan stated.
In the meantime, England and France are set to compete in the bronze medal playoff in Miami on Saturday (local time), both teams eager to finish their FIFA World Cup journeys on a high note after facing defeats in the semifinals.
The final match of the FIFA World Cup will take place between Spain and Argentina at the New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday (local time).
Argentina, the defending champions, achieved a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over England in the semifinals, turning around a first-half deficit with Enzo Fernandez equalizing and Lautaro Martinez scoring the decisive goal in stoppage time, propelling Argentina into the title match against Spain.
This victory over England marked Argentina's entry into the World Cup 2026 final, while England's aspirations for their first World Cup final appearance since 1966 were dashed.
Spain, for their part, secured a spot in the FIFA World Cup final for the first time since their 2010 victory, defeating France 2-0 with a solid performance.
Lamine Yamal was instrumental in Spain's success, winning a penalty after taking the ball from Lucas Digne, which Mikel Oyarzabal converted in the 22nd minute to give Spain an early lead.
As Spain heads into the final, they aim to clinch their second FIFA World Cup title, 16 years after their historic win in 2010, while Argentina seeks to become the first team since Brazil in 1962 to defend their championship successfully.
