Historic Achievement for Indian Wrestling

Vishvajit More has etched his name in history as the first Indian Greco-Roman wrestler to secure a silver medal at the U23 World Championship. Despite aiming for gold, he faced a tough battle in the final, ultimately losing 12-13 to Georgia's Koba Karumidze. More, who previously earned two bronze medals at the same championship, showcased his skills throughout the tournament.

He began his journey with a narrow 10-8 victory over Isaac Marin Mata from Mexico, followed by a decisive 8-1 win against Iranian U20 world champion Armin Shamsipour in the quarterfinals. Shamsipour sustained a shoulder injury during the match, which contributed to More's advancement.

In the semifinals, More faced Malik Gigiev from Russia in a tightly contested match, winning 7-4. Unfortunately, other Indian wrestlers in the Greco-Roman category did not advance to the medal rounds, with Chetan (63kg) and Karan Kamboj (87kg) exiting early.

In the women's competition, Komal lost her semifinal bout to Ukraine's Alina Filipovych by technical superiority but remains in contention for a bronze medal. Diksha Malik (76kg) is also vying for bronze, while Mansi Lather (68kg) was eliminated after a close quarterfinal match against Italy's Laura Godino.
