Kohli Achieves Milestone in ODI Against New Zealand
On Sunday, Indian cricket star Virat Kohli made history by becoming the quickest player to accumulate 28,000 runs in international cricket across all formats. This remarkable achievement occurred during the first ODI against New Zealand.
Kohli reached this significant milestone in just 624 innings, hitting a boundary off New Zealand's leg-spinner Adithya Ashok. In comparison, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar achieved this feat in 644 innings, while Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara, the third member of the 28,000-run club, did so in 666 innings.
Entering the match, the 37-year-old Kohli had already amassed 27,975 runs in international cricket. Tendulkar holds the record with 34,357 runs from 782 innings, and Sangakkara follows with 28,016 runs from 666 innings.
Earlier in February 2023, Kohli became the fastest player to reach 25,000 runs, accomplishing this in 549 innings, which was 28 innings faster than Tendulkar. By October 2023, he surpassed 26,000 runs, and just a year later, in September 2024, he reached the 27,000-run mark in his 594th innings.
