In this match, Kohli also became the first Indian RCB player and the third overall from the franchise to hit five fours in a single over. He joined the ranks of Chris Gayle and Shane Watson, who achieved this feat in previous seasons. Gayle first did it in 2013 against Pune Warriors India, followed by Watson in 2016 against Rising Pune Super Giants. A decade later, Kohli matched this achievement by striking five consecutive boundaries off Kagiso Rabada.
RCB's Struggles Against GT
RCB Batters to Hit Five Fours in a Single Over
- 5 - Chris Gayle vs Ishwar Pandey (PWI), 2013
- 5 - Shane Watson vs Thisara Perera (RPS), 2016
- 5 - Virat Kohli vs Kagiso Rabada (GT), 2026
Despite Kohli's efforts, RCB struggled to post a competitive total, finishing with 155 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium, marking their first time being bowled out in IPL 2026. They began the match strong, scoring at over ten runs per over, with Kohli leading the charge against Rabada. However, the captain's decision to keep Rabada in the attack paid off, as RCB lost several wickets in quick succession. Kohli was dismissed for 28 runs, and the team fell from a promising 71/2 to 96/6.
GT's Successful Chase
Despite the collapse, RCB maintained an aggressive approach, which ultimately cost them runs. They were bowled out in 19.2 overs. Devdutt Padikkal was looking to stabilize the innings but was dismissed for 40 runs by Rashid Khan, who delivered a brilliant performance with figures of 2/19. In the second innings, GT's Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan opened the batting, with Gill scoring a solid 43 and Jos Buttler contributing 39. Although RCB's bowlers made some breakthroughs, Rahul Tewatia's unbeaten 27 helped GT secure victory with 25 balls to spare.
