Kohli's Return to Domestic Cricket

Virat Kohli, the renowned Indian cricketer, has officially announced his participation in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy, which kicks off on December 24, as confirmed by DDCA president Rohan Jaitley.

Currently focused on the ODI series against South Africa, Kohli is set to return to the Hazare Trophy for the first time since his last appearance against Services in February 2010.

The 37-year-old recently celebrated his 52nd century during the series opener in Ranchi, demonstrating his exceptional form despite having transitioned to a one-format player after retiring from Test cricket earlier this year.

Following India's victory in the 2024 World Cup in Barbados, Kohli also stepped away from T20 Internationals.

Jaitley remarked, “He has confirmed his availability for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. However, it remains uncertain how many matches he will participate in. His presence will undoubtedly be a significant boost for the Delhi team,” as reported.

Delhi will commence their Vijay Hazare campaign against Andhra in Bengaluru on December 24, with a total of six matches scheduled.

Fans are anticipated to flock to the venue to witness Kohli in action. Earlier this year, he drew a crowd of over 12,000 during a Ranji Trophy match, a remarkable turnout for a domestic game.

Kohli's return to the Ranji Trophy was part of his preparation for international matches, but he surprised many by announcing his retirement from Test cricket just before the England tour.

The BCCI has mandated that contracted players participate in domestic cricket unless they are injured or engaged in national duties.

Rohit Sharma, who also retired from Tests prior to the England tour, is expected to represent Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Both Kohli and Rohit made significant contributions in the series opener against South Africa in Ranchi, marking their return to international cricket after a lengthy hiatus.

After a slow start in Australia, Kohli found his rhythm with a half-century in the final ODI, while Rohit scored a century in the same match held in Sydney.
