Virat Kohli Reflects on Leadership and Achievements in IPL 2025
Kohli's Leadership Philosophy
In a recent discussion, former Indian captain and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) player Virat Kohli shared insights into his approach to leadership, emphasizing that his decisions on the field are influenced by the match context rather than personal goals. Kohli stated that his leadership is rooted in a deep understanding of the game and the ability to adapt to varying situations.
During an appearance on JioHotstar, he elaborated on his willingness to lead when in form but also his readiness to step back if another player is better suited to take charge. He stressed that his focus is on the team's success rather than personal glory.
Kohli cited a recent Champions Trophy match where Shreyas Iyer took the lead, highlighting that it was never about ego. He explained, "When I’m in rhythm, I naturally take the initiative, but if someone else is in a better position, they should lead. It’s always about understanding the game situation, which I take pride in."
Milestone Achievements in T20 Cricket
On April 9, Virat Kohli reached a significant milestone by scoring 13,000 runs in T20 cricket, becoming the first Indian and only the fifth player globally to achieve this feat. This accomplishment occurred during an IPL match against the Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium.
In that match, Kohli displayed his exceptional batting skills, scoring 67 runs off just 42 balls, including eight fours and two sixes, with a strike rate of 159.52.
As of now in IPL 2025, Kohli has accumulated 164 runs across four matches, averaging 54.66 with a strike rate exceeding 143, including two half-centuries and a top score of 67. He currently ranks as the sixth-highest run-scorer in the tournament.
Overall, in 403 T20 matches, Kohli has amassed 13,050 runs at an average of 41.56, with nine centuries and 99 fifties, his highest score being 122*. The all-time leading run-scorer in T20s is Chris Gayle, with 14,562 runs.
Kohli also achieved one of his quickest fifties in the IPL against MI. Although RCB has yet to secure an IPL title, they are considered to have one of the strongest squads in IPL 2025. Kohli's next appearance will be on April 9 against the Delhi Capitals.
