Continuing to dominate New Zealand's bowling, Kohli struck 13 boundaries and a six, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar to become the highest run-scorer in ODI chases, amassing 8,741 runs compared to Tendulkar's 8,720.

Gill provided solid support with 37 runs off 56 balls, contributing to their sixth century partnership in 27 ODI innings. New Zealand finally made a breakthrough when Nathan Smith had Gill caught behind in the 19th over.

Despite losing Kohli to Jacob Duffy for 74 runs, caught by Tim Seifert, the Indian team maintained control. Duffy also dismissed Axar Patel for a duck, and Shreyas Iyer fell for 15, giving New Zealand a brief hope.
