Virat Kohli has addressed a recent social media stir that arose when fans noticed his verified Instagram account had liked a post from a fan page dedicated to actress Avneet Kaur. What seemed like a trivial action quickly escalated online, leading to various reactions and unfounded speculation, some of which involved Kohli’s wife, actress Anushka Sharma.
In response to the growing chatter, Kohli took to his Instagram Stories to provide a concise statement, aiming to clarify the misunderstanding and asking fans to refrain from making hasty conclusions.
Although he did not mention the actress or the specific post, he stated, “I want to clarify that while managing my feed, it seems the algorithm might have mistakenly logged an interaction. There was no intention behind it. I kindly ask that no unnecessary assumptions be drawn. Thank you for your understanding.”
The 'like' in question has since been removed, but by that time, the incident had already gone viral. While some dismissed it as a simple technical error or a mistake by his management, others fueled the speculation, leading to Kohli's clarification.
This statement came just a day after Kohli shared a heartfelt birthday message for Anushka.
On the cricketing side, Kohli is performing exceptionally well with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 2025 Indian Premier League. With seven victories out of ten matches, RCB currently holds the second position on the points table, tied with the Mumbai Indians in points but trailing in Net Run Rate.
Kohli and his team are scheduled to compete against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday night in Bengaluru.
In contrast, CSK has already been ruled out of the playoff contention.
