Vinesh Phogat Registers for 2026 Senior Open Ranking Tournament in Gonda
Vinesh Phogat's Exciting Return to Wrestling
New Delhi, April 28: Renowned Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has officially registered for the upcoming 2026 Senior Open Ranking Tournament, scheduled to take place in Gonda from May 10 to May 12.
In a post on X, Phogat shared that she completed her registration on Tuesday morning after initially missing the deadline the previous day when the registration link closed. She expressed gratitude for the support she received and conveyed her eagerness to compete again after a 20-month break.
“I successfully registered for the ranking tournament this morning. Unfortunately, I couldn't finish the registration yesterday due to the link closure. I appreciate everyone's support and am excited to participate in my first competition after 20 months,” Vinesh stated on X.
Phogat, who had announced her retirement from wrestling in 2024, made a comeback in December 2025 after an 18-month break to pursue her Olympic aspirations, confirming her return to the sport.
In 2024, she retired following a disqualification in the 50 kg freestyle final at the Paris Olympics. Phogat had reached the gold medal match by defeating Cuba's Yusneylis Guzman Lopez 5-0 in the semi-finals but was disqualified for exceeding the weight limit.
Throughout her impressive career, Phogat has earned two bronze medals at the World Championships (2019 and 2022), a gold medal at the Asian Games (2018), and a bronze (2014), along with three gold medals at the Commonwealth Games (2014, 2018, 2022). She also secured a gold medal at the 2021 Asian Championships and has won both silver and bronze at the continental level.
