Vihaan Jain Takes Charge in Coimbatore
Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) [India], May 20: On the second day of the IGU Southern India Junior Boys Golf Championship at the Coimbatore Golf Club, Vihaan Jain showcased his skills amidst challenging weather conditions. The 16-year-old, fresh off his first junior win in Vizag last week, carded an even-par 72, establishing a three-shot lead over Haryana's Prince Bainsla, who finished with a score of 74 in Category 'A' (ages 15-17). Tamil Nadu's Nilofer Sivamoorthy followed closely in third with a score of 74.
Adhiraaj Singh Gill, who led overnight, struggled with a score of 79, dropping to a tie for fourth alongside Karnataka's Vivaan Ubhayakar, both at nine-over 153.
After a slow start, Vihaan made a significant move by sinking a nine-foot putt for birdie on the ninth hole. He continued his momentum with a remarkable 35-foot birdie on the 13th. Despite hitting the trees on the right during his drive, he managed to reach the green in three but missed an eight-foot par attempt.
Putting that setback behind him, he birdied the 16th hole, bringing his score to two-under for the day. However, he faced challenges on the 17th and 18th holes, three-putting from 20 feet, which resulted in a final score of even-par 72.
In Category 'B' (ages 13-14), Delhi's Chaitanya Pandey took a commanding five-shot lead with a score of 75, while Telangana's Saatvic Kumar Singh followed with 78. Jaibir Singh Kang, leading the Order of Merit, was just one stroke behind with a score of 77.
