Vicky Ostwal's Experience with Virat Kohli
In Bengaluru, left-arm spinner Vicky Ostwal of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) discussed his experiences training alongside Virat Kohli, revealing how their discussions have provided him with crucial insights into his game. Ostwal expressed that the team is eager to defend their title in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Ostwal's Impressive Track Record
Ostwal gained recognition as India's leading wicket-taker during the 2022 Under-19 World Cup in the Caribbean and continued his success by becoming the top wicket-taker in the Under-23 CK Nayudu tournament for the 2024-25 season, achieving 69 wickets in just 9 matches with an outstanding average of 13.34. He was acquired by RCB for his base price of Rs 30 lacs during the IPL 2026 auction.
Learning from Kohli
The 23-year-old spinner shared that his interactions with Kohli in the nets have been instrumental in enhancing his understanding of both bowling and batting strategies. He frequently seeks advice from Kohli on what distinguishes him as a batter. Ostwal noted that Kohli's encouragement and constructive feedback have been invaluable, as the veteran player consistently supports his potential.
Conversations that Matter
Ostwal elaborated on their discussions, stating, “I have had some good conversations with him. I used to bowl to him in the nets. After I finished my net practice, I would approach him to discuss my bowling approach and his mindset when facing me. I often ask him what makes him so exceptional and how he maintains an edge over bowlers like myself.” He emphasized Kohli's precise and insightful guidance.
Kohli's Proactive Mindset
Ostwal praised Kohli's proactive nature, noting that the star batter strives to remain dominant and alert, always aiming to stay one step ahead of the bowler. “He likes to be on his toes and is very proactive when batting in the nets,” Ostwal remarked.
RCB's Determination for Success
Reflecting on the team's atmosphere following their first IPL title, Ostwal stated that RCB remains highly motivated and focused on achieving consecutive championships. He expressed confidence in the squad's ability to replicate last year's success, stating, “Everyone is excited and determined to win back-to-back trophies, which is a rare achievement.”
Strong Start to IPL 2026
RCB kicked off their IPL 2026 journey with an impressive six-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad, marking the fastest chase of 200-plus runs in IPL history, achieving the target of 202 runs in just 15.4 overs.
