Chopra's Remarkable Comeback

Ras Al Khaimah [UAE], September 25: Varun Chopra commenced the final day of the AM Green IGPL Invitational, hosted by Vimtra Chennai Lions GC, trailing the leader Shiv Kapur by three strokes. However, he delivered an impressive performance, finishing with a 4-under 68, ultimately surpassing Kapur to secure the title.

Chopra's outstanding final round allowed him to win by two strokes, concluding the tournament with a total score of 14-under 202, following rounds of 66-68-68, as reported by IGPL.

Kapur, who had initially set the pace with a remarkable 62 on the opening day, managed a 69 on the second day, maintaining a three-shot lead. Unfortunately for him, the final round saw a shift in momentum, resulting in a 1-over 73 and a second-place finish at 12-under 204, earning him Rs. 15 lakhs.

This victory marks Chopra's first title at the IGPL, adding to his earlier success this year at the APGA Tour championship and a commendable performance at the Morocco Rising Stars Marrakech.

Sachin Baisoya secured third place with a final round of 68, totaling 8-under, while five players, including Veer Ganapathy, Gaganjeet Bhullar, Varun Parikh, Aryan Roopa Anand, and Tushar Pannu, finished tied for fifth.

Chopra's stellar performance also contributed to the Auro Goa Eagles winning the team title with a total score of 23-under, while Kapur's RVR Delhi Blue Bulls finished second at 21-under.

Baisoya's strong finish helped his team, Hyderabad Firebird, claim third place at 13-under, tied with Flying Man Kolkata, where Varun Parikh shone as the standout player.

Chopra started strong with a birdie and gained momentum with three birdies in four holes between the fifth and eighth. Meanwhile, Kapur struggled to respond to Chopra's charge, failing to secure any birdies on the final day.

By the turn, Chopra had taken the lead and maintained his composure on the back nine, while Kapur's putter failed him. After a 4-under front nine, Chopra birdied the 14th but dropped a shot on the 16th, finishing the last two holes with pars, which proved sufficient as Kapur could not capitalize on the opportunity.

Kapur, who had dazzled with a 10-under 62 on the first day, found himself unable to make any birdies on the final day, settling for pars and a bogey on the Par-4 12th, resulting in a 73.

IGPL debutant Ravi Kumar (70) and young talent Kanav Chauhan (71) rounded out the top ten finishers.
