India A Triumphs Over Sri Lanka A in Final

Dambulla [Sri Lanka], June 21: In a thrilling finale of the tri-series, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi showcased his extraordinary power-hitting skills, guiding India A to a decisive 66-run win against Sri Lanka A on Sunday.

The young prodigy delivered an astonishing performance, scoring 94 runs off just 29 balls, marking one of the most remarkable innings in List A cricket history.

Thanks to Sooryavanshi's explosive batting, India A set a daunting target of 377 runs for Sri Lanka A, who could only manage 311 in their response, thus securing the championship in style.

At just 15 years old, Sooryavanshi made history by reaching his first fifty in a mere 11 balls, breaking the previous List A record of 12 balls held by Sri Lanka's Kaushalya Weeraratne for over twenty years.

Just six runs shy of a century, Sooryavanshi was on the verge of matching the record for the fastest List A hundred, currently held by Australia's Jake Fraser-McGurk, who achieved the feat in 29 balls in 2023.

Alongside Sooryavanshi's remarkable 94, India A benefited from significant contributions from Priyansh Arya (39), Ruturaj Gaikwad (40), captain Tilak Varma (67), and Kumar Kushagra (36), culminating in a formidable total of 377.

In their chase, Sri Lanka A struggled, despite fifties from Sadeera Samarawickrama and Wanuja Sahan. Their innings faltered early as Yash Thakur made crucial breakthroughs during the powerplay, dismantling the top order and placing India in a dominant position.

Wickets continued to tumble for Sri Lanka, preventing them from gaining any momentum to challenge the target.

Brief Scores: India A 377/9 in 50 overs (Vaibhav Sooryavanshi 94, Tilak Varma 67; Wanuja Sahan 2-39) defeated Sri Lanka A 311 in 47.1 overs (Wanuja Sahan 62, Sadeera Samarawickrama 52; Yash Thakur 3-45) by 66 runs.
