Vaibhav Sooryavanshi: The Young Cricket Sensation Poised for T20I Debut
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Rising Stardom
The young cricketer Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continues to capture attention with his impressive performance, amassing over 400 runs in just ten matches, including a century, during the IPL 2026 season. Speculations suggest that he might soon be included in India's T20I squad, should the reports from various media sources hold true. Zubin Bharucha, who was instrumental in bringing Sooryavanshi into the franchise system, advocates for his swift inclusion into the national Test team, viewing it as a strategic move rather than a gamble. Bharucha emphasizes that this approach has historical precedence in Indian cricket, referencing the early career of Sachin Tendulkar.
Bharucha remarked, "Evaluating his metrics—scores, strike rates, and runs—Sooryavanshi surpasses many seasoned players waiting for their chance. It’s time to take a bold step and introduce him to the team immediately." He believes that Sooryavanshi's potential extends beyond his current role as an opener. While he has primarily batted at the top of the order, Bharucha suggests that his true capabilities may lie in the middle order, where players like Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja currently bat for India.
"Technically, he tends to lean back too much, which is crucial for batting success. When the ball is moving, failing to commit to the front foot can hinder performance. The challenge is to refine his technique for such conditions. I also think that opening may not be his ideal position; he has much more to contribute, and it would be a mistake to pigeonhole him there," Bharucha concluded.
