By Vipul Kashyap

New Delhi [India] - Former Indian captain Kapil Dev has praised the remarkable talent of 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who recently received his first call-up to the national cricket team. Dev noted that Sooryavanshi has already showcased abilities that are rare for someone of his age.

While acknowledging the long road ahead for the young cricketer, Dev expressed his hopes for Sooryavanshi's success, emphasizing the need for him to remain humble and focused as he embarks on his cricketing journey.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Sooryavanshi's inclusion in the national squad for an upcoming European tour, making him the youngest player ever to be selected for the Indian men's team.

Sooryavanshi has broken a long-standing record previously held by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who debuted for India at the age of 16 against Pakistan in 1989.

Kapil Dev remarked, “He is an immense talent. Watching him play was a delight. Although he has a long way to go, his skill level is exceptional for someone so young. I wish him all the best. If he remains grounded and takes care of himself, his future will be bright, as this is just the beginning of his career.”

Sooryavanshi earned his national call-up following an outstanding performance in the IPL 2026 season with the Rajasthan Royals, where he emerged as the tournament's leading run-scorer with 776 runs at an impressive strike rate of 237.30.

His explosive season included a record-breaking 72 sixes, allowing him to set multiple IPL records and establish himself as one of the most promising young talents in Indian cricket.

The Bihar native dominated the post-season awards, claiming titles such as Most Valuable Player (MVP), Emerging Player of the Season, Super Striker, Orange Cap, and Super Sixes of the Season.

Representing the Rajasthan Royals, Sooryavanshi consistently overpowered some of the best bowling attacks in the world, playing a crucial role in his team's success with his aggressive batting style.

India's next challenge will be a two-match T20I series against Ireland in Belfast on June 26 and 28, followed by a five-match T20I series in England from July 1 to 11.
