Sooryavanshi's Stellar Performance

Mullanpur (Punjab) [India] - After an impressive innings of 97 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the eliminator, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi from Rajasthan Royals (RR) shared insights into his batting approach, stating that he believes "centuries will keep coming" while keeping his eyes on the IPL trophy.

Sooryavanshi's remarkable IPL season reached new heights as he delivered a stunning performance, scoring 97 runs off just 29 balls, which included five fours and an astonishing 12 sixes. This achievement allowed him to surpass Chris Gayle's record for the most sixes in a single IPL season, totaling 65 sixes, while also breaking records previously held by Andre Russell and David Warner.

In the post-match presentation, Sooryavanshi expressed the team's desire to maintain their positive momentum as they prepare to face the Gujarat Titans (GT) in Qualifier two, aiming for a spot in the finals.

The young cricketer emphasized his batting philosophy, which focuses on not overthinking but rather assessing how to tackle the opposition bowlers based on the pitch conditions and boundary sizes.

"I do think a little, but I try not to overanalyze. My focus is on playing the game as it unfolds and not getting caught up in excessive thoughts. If I identify areas for improvement, I address those. I concentrate on the bowlers in the opposing team and how to handle them on this particular wicket, considering the boundary dimensions. Staying positive helps me keep the bowlers under pressure, and I aim to dominate the game," he explained.

Reflecting on missing a century, he stated, "My primary goal was to contribute to the team's success. Centuries will come, but right now, my focus is on winning the trophy. If I encounter challenges, I work on them, particularly regarding my short ball dismissal. I don't dwell on the opposition's strategies; instead, I concentrate on my own game plan and play my natural style of cricket."

With this defeat, SRH has been eliminated from the tournament, while Rajasthan Royals will face Gujarat Titans in Qualifier two on Friday for a chance to compete in the final against the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

After SRH opted to bat first, Sooryavanshi (97 runs off 29 balls, with five fours and 12 sixes) and Dhruv Jurel (50 runs off 21 balls, with five fours and three sixes) led RR to a total of 243/8 in their 20 overs. During SRH's chase, they struggled early, finding themselves at 57/4 in the powerplay, despite a brief resurgence from Ishan Kishan (33 runs off 11 balls, with three fours and three sixes). Archer (3/58) and Burger (2/26) played crucial roles in RR's bowling attack, ultimately dismissing SRH for 196 runs in 19.2 overs. Nitish Kumar Reddy (38 runs off 20 balls, with three fours and two sixes) and Salil Arora (35 runs off 20 balls, with two fours and two sixes) attempted to rally with a 56-run partnership for the sixth wicket, but Ravindra Jadeja (2/21) extinguished their hopes by taking both wickets.

Sooryavanshi was awarded the 'Player of the Match' title for his outstanding performance.
