Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Shines with 81 as India Sets Competitive Total Against Zimbabwe

In the third and final T20I held on Sunday, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's impressive 81 led India to a solid total of 192 for five against Zimbabwe.

Choosing to bat first, India faced a somewhat tricky pitch at the Harare Sports Club, where Sooryavanshi displayed a different facet of his batting in his 48-ball innings.

The 15-year-old began cautiously, scoring just 11 runs in his first 10 deliveries, followed by 15 runs in the next 10, before reaching his second T20I fifty in just 31 balls.

As expected, Sooryavanshi delivered some breathtaking shots, including a powerful straight drive for four off a yorker from Brad Evans and a massive 102-meter six off off-spinner Sikandar Raza, showcasing his remarkable strength and skill.

He also displayed creativity with a reverse sweep for a boundary against spinner Wesley Madhevere, although his innings was characterized by a level of restraint.

In contrast, his opening partner Abhishek Sharma continued to struggle, falling for his sixth consecutive low score, edging a delivery from pacer Blessing Muzarabani to stumper Tadi Marumani.

Abhishek's recent scores have been disappointing: 10, 16, 3, 1, 8, and 2, dating back to the third T20I against England last month.

Despite this, Sooryavanshi demonstrated maturity by forming a 75-run partnership with Ishan Kishan (29) for the second wicket, followed by a 50-run collaboration with Shreyas Iyer (27).

Unfortunately, Sooryavanshi fell short of a well-deserved century when Evans took a spectacular catch at long-off off Madhevere's bowling.

After the departures of Sooryavanshi and Shreyas, the middle order struggled to maintain the momentum, managing only 47 runs in the final five overs. Rinku Singh's quickfire 25 off 14 balls was crucial in pushing India closer to the 200-run mark.

However, the home team may find it tough on a pitch that offers assistance to bowlers.
