Sooryavanshi's Stellar Performance

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is enjoying an exceptional season in IPL 2026, amassing 583 runs across 14 matches, significantly contributing to the Rajasthan Royals' (RR) playoff journey. In contrast, his opening partner, Yashasvi Jaiswal, has had an inconsistent season. Although Jaiswal's performance is commendable, it has been eclipsed by Sooryavanshi's explosive batting. As a senior player, Jaiswal was anticipated to spearhead the team's efforts, but Sooryavanshi's remarkable form has captured all the attention. Former Indian cricketer R Ashwin commented that Sooryavanshi's impressive run may have unsettled Jaiswal, affecting his overall performance this season. “I find Jaiswal's performance somewhat disappointing, and I expected more from him. I have high hopes for him, but I sense that Sooryavanshi's success might have shaken him a bit,” Ashwin expressed on his YouTube channel.

Ashwin Draws Parallel To Sehwag-Chopra Combination

Ashwin likened the current situation of Sooryavanshi and Jaiswal to his own experience with Virender Sehwag and Aakash Chopra, where Sehwag's dominance often overshadowed Chopra's contributions. Chopra, who played 10 Tests for India, formed effective partnerships with Sehwag during the 2003 Australian tour, yet Sehwag's explosive style often made Chopra's efforts seem less significant. “In the opening pair of Sehwag and Chopra, Aakash would often provide solid starts, but Sehwag's aggressive batting made him appear almost invisible. Not that he wasn't performing well; Aakash did a commendable job during that tour. However, I believe Sooryavanshi's fierce batting has somewhat thrown Jaiswal off balance. In several matches, Jaiswal has been dismissed while attempting to play aggressively,” Ashwin added.
