Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Shines as RCB Faces Defeat in IPL 2026
RCB's Setback Against Rajasthan Royals
In a thrilling match on April 10 at the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, Bhuvneshwar Kumar displayed commendable sportsmanship after Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) suffered their first loss of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season against Rajasthan Royals (RR). The Royals secured their fourth consecutive victory, overpowering the defending champions by six wickets with 12 balls remaining. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi emerged as the standout performer, scoring 28 runs off just 76 balls at an impressive strike rate of 300 while chasing a target of 202. The 15-year-old showcased his talent with eight boundaries and seven sixes, marking his second half-century of the season and currently leading the orange cap race with 200 runs in four matches. Despite having dismissed Sooryavanshi in the previous season, Bhuvneshwar faced a different challenge as the young opener aggressively targeted both him and Australian bowler Josh Hazlewood, demonstrating no fear against their experience.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar's Praise for the Young Star
Following the match, Bhuvneshwar expressed admiration for Sooryavanshi's performance, noting that the RCB bowlers had exhausted all their strategies. He commended the young player's maturity and skill, emphasizing that he was not merely slogging but executing proper cricketing shots. "It's a T20 game, and while he is young, he is batting exceptionally well and with maturity. We never felt overwhelmed, and if a 15-year-old can perform like this, it’s just part of the T20 format. We had our plans, and while we dropped a catch, such things happen in cricket. We did our best, but it’s challenging to use spinners during the powerplay, and we had limited options. Vaibhav played some excellent shots, and we felt we couldn’t have done much differently. He deserves all the credit for his performance," Bhuvneshwar stated in the post-match press conference.
