Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Shines as Rajasthan Royals Triumph Over Lucknow Super Giants
Rajasthan Royals Keep Playoff Hopes Alive
In a pivotal IPL 2026 encounter, Rajasthan Royals (RR) secured a vital victory against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), keeping their playoff aspirations intact. The standout performer for RR was the young prodigy, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who delivered an explosive innings of 93 runs off just 38 balls, leading his team to chase down a daunting target of 220 with five balls remaining.
After reaching his fifty, Sooryavanshi celebrated in a unique manner, forming an 'A' with his fingers, a gesture that quickly gained traction on social media. During the post-match presentation, where he was awarded Player of the Match, he explained that this celebration was a tribute to his mother, whose name begins with the letter 'A'. He expressed, “This I dedicated to my mother. Her name starts with ‘A’ so that’s why. I didn’t want this to be known to everyone because I don’t want to jinx it.”
Record-Breaking Performance by Sooryavanshi
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Slams Multiple Records Vs LSG
Sooryavanshi's remarkable innings included a staggering 10 sixes, marking the third occasion in his career where he has hit 10 or more sixes in an IPL match. Previously, he achieved this feat with 11 sixes against GT in the 2025 IPL and 12 sixes against SRH earlier this season. He now joins the elite company of Chris Gayle, being only the second player to hit double-digit sixes three times in IPL history.
With this performance, he also reached a milestone of 50 sixes in the 2026 IPL, becoming the first Indian to accomplish this in a single season and only the third player ever, following Gayle and Andre Russell. Currently, he holds a total of 53 sixes in the tournament, ranking second in IPL history.
Additionally, Sooryavanshi made history as the first teenager to surpass 500 runs in a single IPL season. The previous record for the youngest player to achieve this was held by Rishabh Pant, who was 20 years old during the 2018 IPL season when he scored 684 runs. Sooryavanshi has now set a world record as the youngest player to score over 500 runs in any T20 tournament, breaking the previous record set by Devdutt Padikkal, who was 19 during the 2019 Syed Mustaq Ali Trophy. No other teenager in global cricket has reached this remarkable milestone in any T20 competition.
